The Ottomar-von-Reden-Park in Gehrden , Hanover region , also called Von-Reden-Park for short , is a listed green area with some centuries-old trees . The historic park , whose origins go back to the 16th century, is filled with numerous old solitary trees . The all-year-round complex on Franzburger Strasse at the corner of Parkstrasse is, as an ensemble with the old manor wall and the rare trees and bushes, at the same time a unique arboretum that is intended to promote relaxation, culture and the experience of nature for visitors.

History and description

The origins of today's facility, which emerged from the manor park of the former Franzburg manor , date back to 1590. But it wasn't until almost two centuries later, around 1780, that Friedrich-Otto von Reden had the green space laid out in its current structure as a manor park.

The lyre bench was erected in the park in 1912 during the German Empire .

In 1959, the mayor of Gehrden and namesake of the park, Ottomar von Reden (1888–1959), who died in the same year, bequeathed the more than three hectare park to the then district of Hanover as a foundation .

After parts of the park and many of its old trees were later placed under protection as garden monuments , the Hanover Garden Region had a renovation and utilization concept drawn up for the entire complex in 2007. This should ensure careful reconstructions, but also long-term maintenance of the tree and shrub collection to be expanded as an arboretum.
