Llanelli Association Football Club is a Welsh football club based in the coastal town of Llanelli .

history

Founded in 1896, Llanelli AFC has been a professional football club since 1912. In 1914 the club was in the Welsh Cup final for the first time, but failed after a 0-0 in regular game by a 0-3 defeat in the replay at Wrexham FC . In 1922 they moved to Stebonheath Park , where they still play today.

In 1930 and 1933 Llanelli AFC was able to win the Welsh championship, but then had to wait until 1971 before the next triumph succeeded. In 1977 and 1978 the club reached the last two championships.

Llanelli AFC was one of the founding members of the League of Wales in 1992 , with which the Welsh champions find international recognition for the first time and are accepted as an official title by UEFA . In the first two years safe midfield positions were occupied, in the 1994/95 season they found themselves in the relegation battle and could just keep the class with two points ahead of relegated Mold Alexandra . A year later you ended the season bottom of the table and had to relegate. There they just missed promotion in the following two years, in 1999 succeeded as runners-up in the second division, the return to the House of Lords, as table leader Ton Pentre renounced the place in the first division.

Llanelli AFC immediately managed a fifth place, but in the following season they were back on a relegation zone. However, since no team moved up from the second division in the south, the club remained first class. The 2002/03 season, however, was unsuccessful and beaten with only 17 points, the club only went into the second division, from which they rose again as champions in the following season.

In the first season after their return they still played for relegation, 2006 achieved the best result in the club's recent history with second place. This was the first time the club qualified for an international competition and won 2-1 in Sweden against the Swedish team from Gefle IF in the first qualifying round . A 0-0 in the second leg made the duel against Odense BK possible , but they clearly prevailed with two wins, 1-0 and 5-1.
