The company was founded in 1956 as a German branch of the Swiss Elvia, the travel insurance subsidiary of Helvetia-Unfall-Versicherung, founded in 1950 (see Helvetia Insurance ). From 1995 Elvia was majority owned by the Allianz Group.
Until December 2008 the company operated as Elvia Reiseversicherungs-Gesellschaft Aktiengesellschaft in Wallisellen, branch for Germany , until December 2009 as Mondial Assistance International AG in Wallisellen, branch for Germany and until March 2011 as Mondial Assistance International SA in Paris, branch for Germany . Since then it has been operating as AGA INTERNATIONAL SA, branch for Germany , based in Munich, since March 2013 with a business address in Aschheim near Munich. According to the company, since March 1, 2016, the company has been called AWP P&C SA, a branch for Germany and is based in Aschheim. AWP P&C stands for Allianz Worldwide Partners Property & Casualty ( property & casualty is English for 'property and casualty insurance').
