The AGR Abfallentsorgungs-Gesellschaft Ruhrgebiet mbH is a waste management company based in Herten . It is completely owned by the Ruhr Regional Association (RVR).

history

After the decommissioning of the Graf Bismarck colliery in Gelsenkirchen (1966), the Emscherbruch Central Landfill (ZDE), the first organized landfill in Germany , was established there from 1968 . This landfill was operated by the Ruhr Area Municipal Association (KVR).

In 1982 the KVR founded the AGR waste disposal company Ruhrgebiet mbH (AGR) with the KVR as the sole shareholder. Responsibility for the operation of the ZDE was later transferred to AGR - as was responsibility for the central landfills Castrop-Rauxel, Datteln, Emscherbruch (Gelsenkirchen), Hattingen and Oberhausen as well as the hazardous waste landfill Hünxe and the Gelsenkirchen interim storage facility.

Also in 1982 and still under the direction of KVR, the Ruhr raw material recovery center (RZR) , which was still known at the time, was opened in Herten , a waste incineration plant for municipal waste and hazardous waste . The RZR Herten waste power plant is operated by AGR Betriebsführung GmbH, a subsidiary of AGR mbH. In 2009 the plant complex was expanded to include incineration lines for commercial waste with the RZR II. This system is operated by RZR Herten II GmbH. The recycling capacities of the two plants amount to up to 700,000 tons of municipal waste, commercial waste and industrial waste annually.

The AGR Abfallentsorgungs-Gesellschaft Ruhrgebiet mbH has been operating under its current name since 1990, thereby expressing the expansion of its activities from mere waste disposal to comprehensive waste disposal. Through participations and company foundings in the fields of recycling and the environment, it has transformed itself into a service provider for waste management over the past twenty years .

The AGR Abfallentsorgungs-Gesellschaft Ruhrgebiet (AGR) is today a medium-sized, communal group. In its five business areas of circular economy and logistics, thermal treatment of household, commercial and industrial waste, landfill management, environmental services and secondary products, it moves, recycles and processes several million tons of material every year.

With this, AGR makes an important contribution to the security of waste disposal in the region and gains electricity, steam and district heating from waste management activities. With around 940 employees, the company contributes to a waste management and recycling management that is oriented towards ecology, sustainability and economy, takes precautions for air pollution control with its systems and services as well as climate, noise, water and soil protection and extracts valuable secondary raw materials.
