The PRINOTH GmbH (formerly AHWI Maschinenbau GmbH) is a medium-sized engineering company based in Herdwangen , suburb of the municipality of Herdwangen-Schönach, Baden-Wurttemberg. Prinoth GmbH develops and sells machines for forestry and agriculture as well as for the maintenance of ecosystems.

history

In 1990 Artur Willibald founded AHWI Maschinenbau GmbH with his brother Hubert. The object of the company is the development and manufacture of machines for clearing and recultivation as well as special machines in the field of environmental technology and recycling of organic and mineral materials. At the end of 1996, the company expanded and relocated its headquarters from a village near Salem to the Branden industrial park in Herdwangen in the Sigmaringen district . There was also a new administration and production building. Artur Willibald took over the sole management .

Between the years 2000 and 2008, the production building was expanded, the production and assembly halls were separated, and a new hall for steel construction was built. In addition, there was an in-house construction department, the logistics hall and additional office space.

The start in the forest machine market succeeded in the founding year with a mulcher with fixed tools. The resulting, patented rotor and tool concept initially made AHWI the leader in forest technology. The system was then used in clearing and stump milling machines in the AHWI attachment line. The company developed the first tracked tractor back in 1994. Since 1997 this has been produced in series as an all-terrain and powerful tractor. Today Prinoth GmbH has a comprehensive range of carrier vehicles.

In addition to developing machines for forestry, from 2000 onwards, AHWI developed a mine clearing device , the MinenWolf , which has been in series production since 2004 and has cleared over 18 million square meters of mined terrain to date. For this device, AHWI received the Dr. Rudolf Eberle Prize , the innovation prize of the state of Baden-Württemberg, in November 2008 . The MinenWolf is u. a. in use in Jordan, Bosnia, Croatia and Rwanda. The production and marketing of the mine clearer was spun off in 2006 to Minewolf Systems AG , based in Pfäffikon , Switzerland .

It was recognized at an early stage that biomass would become increasingly important as a renewable energy source and AHWI expanded its product portfolio with two drum chipper modules. The biomass harvester H600 is a process innovation in this area . With this machine, it was possible for the first time to harvest and shred biomass in one operation. The first machines are running in Namibia and harvest biomass for combustion in a cement plant.

In 2011 the decision was made to acquire a strategic majority stake in the South Tyrolean company Prinoth. The Vegetation Management division manages the RAPTOR fleet under the uniform company name Prinoth, while the AHWI brand remains for the attachment vehicles.

In 2013 the RAPTOR 800 with 640 hp was presented. In 2016, AHWI was fully integrated into the PRINOTH Group with the sale of the remaining shares.

In 2018, Prinoth GmbH was recognized as a volunteer-friendly employer by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior.
