Mircea David (born October 16, 1914 in Sinaia , Prahova district , † October 12, 1993 in Iași ) was a Romanian football goalkeeper . He played 143 games in the highest Romanian soccer league, Divizia A , and took part in the 1938 World Cup as a substitute .

Life

Mircia David was born in Sinaia in 1914. After a few years the family moved to Oradea . He first played Oină and only started playing football later. His role model was the Austrian goalkeeper Rudolf Hiden .

Career as a player

David began his career with his hometown club Clubul Atletic Oradea . There he moved up in the 1933/34 season in the first team and on October 8, 1933, made his debut in the top Romanian league, the Divizia A. In the 1935/36 season , David was a regular at CAO.

In 1938 David left CAO and joined the Romanian top club Venus Bucharest . There he was able to win the Romanian championship in 1939 and 1940 . When Venus was classified in the second highest division, Divizia B , after the end of the Second World War , he initially remained loyal to the club, but in 1947 he joined the league competitor August 23 Lugoj.

After a disappointing sporting year in Lugoj, David returned to Oradea to CAO, which now played under the name ICO Oradea . There he succeeded in winning the championship again in the 1948/49 season . In 1951 he ended his career there.

National team

David completed twelve games for the Romanian national soccer team . He made his debut on October 4, 1936 against Hungary . In 1938, national coach Alexandru Săvulescu nominated him for the squad for the World Cup in France, but did not use him.

Career as a coach

After the end of his active career, David took over Știința Iași in Divizia B in 1952. After promotion to Divizia A at the end of the 1959/60 season, he gave up the coaching job and moved to the Romanian Football Association .
