Peter Steels

Peter Stähle (born September 4, 1946 in Augsburg ) is a German table tennis player . He became German champion in doubles in 1967 .

youth

Steels initially played basketball, fistball and chess before he found table tennis at the age of thirteen. He joined TSV Schwaben Augsburg , where at the age of 15 he received approval for use in men's teams. He won a title three times at the Bavarian Youth Championships: 1963 in doubles, 1964 in singles and mixed. He has been nominated several times for youth competitions. At the European youth championships in 1963 he was third.

Adults

In 1964 he moved to PSV Augsburg in the Oberliga Süd, the top German league at the time. With their men's team, he qualified for the newly created Bundesliga in 1966 . With Augsburg he won the German Cup in 1966/67.

In the federal ranking tournament in 1965, he finished eighth. At the National German Championships he was successful in doubles with Martin Ness . In 1967 they became German champions, a year later they became runner-up. In February 1966, Stähle played an international match against Switzerland with the B national team. He managed a victory in the German 5: 4 success.

After a detour via the TTC Ebingen, he returned to PSV Augsburg in 1978.

Steels is a wholesale merchant by profession.
