The Post SV Augsburg is a sports club based in Augsburg . The table tennis team is one of the founding members of the men's Bundesliga . The club also has departments in aikido , football , handball , swimming and tennis . On August 1, 2015, Post SV Telekom Augsburg had 735 members.

history

On June 14, 1927, the club was founded as a post sports club under the name Post SV Augsburg . The main initiator was Anton Arndt, then President of the Deutsche Reichspost. First, the football and swimming departments were created. Because of the Second World War, the association dissolved in 1938. On February 1, 1947, it was re-established under the name ASV Augsburg (ASV = General Sports Club). It was later renamed Post SV Augsburg . In 1955 the Judo department was founded, which on June 30, 2015 ceased sports operations after 60 years and joined the Judo Club Augsburg eV. The club magazine has been published six times a year since 1989, from 1991 the club was called Post SV Telekom Augsburg , and since 2015 it has been called Post SV Augsburg eV .

The judo department was formed around June 1st, 1955. The first members of the record are Richard Roeck; 2. Board member Georg Bair and Karl Baumbach listed as trainer, passive and supportive were Mr. Franz Lupbrand and Hugo Schneider, who contributed significantly to the fact that Postler became interested in judo and joined the department. From 1960 Georg Bair took over the department and headed it until 1974, Brigitte Link from 1975 to 1976, from 1977 to 1982 Gerhard Fürmetz, from 1982 to 1986 Thomas Beck, who handed over the department to Petra Oberschmid. From 1999 Mathias Geislinger was head of department. On June 30, 2015, all active judoka joined the Judo Club Augsburg eV.

In the years 1966–1969, mail carriers were taught self-defense. The training was held for many years under very poor conditions, e.g. B. in the attic, and in classrooms of the post office. The possibility to train in different school gyms brought significant improvements. Training facilities were u. a. in the Löweneckschule, the Schillerschule, the Peutinger-Gymnasium and the Wittelsbacher Schule.

The highlights of the years 2008–2010 were the presentations in front of a large audience at the Augsburg spring exhibition . The regular training and leisure weekends were also attended by the members. From 2004 to 2015 the judo department cooperated with the University Sports Augsburg. As a result, many beginners and those returning to work in young adults came to the department. From 2010 to 2015 there was a sporting exchange with the Scottish club Highland Budokan in Augsburg's twin city Inverness .

Table tennis

The table tennis department was founded in 1948 by Rudi Jennessen, Kurt Neher and Hans Steinbichler († 1972), previously TTC Rot-Weiß Augsburg, and Hans Angenendt, previously TSV 1871 Augsburg. In 1952, other active players from TSV 1871 Augsburg joined, whose table tennis department had disbanded. During this time, a women's team was also formed. As a result, the teams and the active won several titles in Swabia. Youth work was also promoted. Well-known players like Martin Ness and Erich Goldau emerged from the youth . In 1960, the men's team Martin Ness, Werner Kümmerle , Seppl Weber, Erich Trepl, Erich Goldau, Hannes Großmann and Bayerlein were promoted to the Bayern Oberliga . When the Bundesliga club SV Augsburg disbanded in 1961, several players, including Toni Breumair , moved to Post SV. In the 1965/66 season, the men's team was third in the Oberliga Süd. This entitles them to participate in a qualification tournament for promotion to the newly created Bundesliga. Augsburg won this tournament and was one of the founding members of the BL, where Martin Ness, Peter Stähle , Anton Breumair , Werner Kümmerle, Günter Wuchenauer, Josef Merk, Wilhelm Freyinger and Erich Goldau competed. The team was able to stay in the league for six years, reaching fifth place in 1966/67 and 1967/68.

The greatest success was achieved in 1967 when the club won the German Cup with Martin Ness , Peter Stähle and Günter Wuchenauer. In the final, VfL Osnabrück was defeated, which entitles them to participate in the European Cup . In 1960 and 1969 they reached third place in the German Cup.

In the 1971/72 season, the team was last with zero points and was relegated from the Bundesliga. Since several players left the club, the team was moved back to the district league. As a result, she rose again several times and reached the 2nd Bundesliga in 1980. Here she played until relegation in 1988. In 1992 she was promoted back to the 2nd Bundesliga.

In the 2007/08 season the men's team plays in the Bayern League.

Well-known players were Martin Ness, Peter Stähle, Toni Breumair, Andrei Masunow and Jindřich Panský .

In 2002 the youth team became Bavarian champions.

Soccer

The club also has a football department, although this is only of local importance. The first men's team at Post SV played in the 11th class B-Class Augsburg Südost in the 2018/19 season. No team is registered for the 2019/20 season.
