ASUS Media Bus
The ASUS Media Bus is a plug-in card - bus system , the mid-1990s on some motherboards of PC - hardware manufacturer Asus was to be found.
This is a normal 32-bit PCI slot with ISA extension and should reduce costs and slots and solve compatibility problems between PCI and ISA bus.
ASUS offered some graphics and SCSI controllers that were combined with a sound card ( Creative Sound Blaster 16 ) for the ASUS Media Bus. Without sound card functionality, the graphics card or SCSI controller could also be used in a normal 32-bit PCI slot.
The cards and slots of the older Asus Media Bus revision 1.0 / 1.2 (68 pins) are neither mechanically nor electrically compatible with the later revision 2.0 (72 pins). Due to the proprietary nature of this solution and the incompatibility of different Media Bus revisions, the success of its dissemination was modest and the ASUS Media Bus soon disappeared from the market.
