The Montevideo ATP tournament (officially Topper Open ) is a former men's tennis tournament that was held in the Uruguayan capital in 1994 and 1995 . The game was played outdoors on clay. The tournament was scheduled for the first week of November, making it one of the last clay court tournaments of the season (only the tournament in Buenos Aires was held later). The tournament was part of the ATP World Series , the predecessor of the ATP World Tour 250 . Neither in singles nor in doubles has a player succeeded in winning both events; Alberto Berasategui reached the finals in the singles, but the team Sergio Casal / Emilio Sánchez in doubles both times. In 1994 a local player, Marcelo Filippini , won the tournament.
Since 1998 the tournament has been held again under the name Uruguay Open as part of the ATP Challenger Tour , it is - like the tournament of the ATP Tour - held in the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club , the largest tennis club in Uruguay.
