AWAS Aviation Capital Limited (formerly Ansett Worldwide Aviation Services ) is an aircraft leasing and sales company based in Dublin, Ireland. It has additional offices in New York City , Miami and Wisma Atria , Singapore .
history
AWAS was founded in 1985 as Ansett Worldwide Aviation Services and leased its first aircraft to America West in 1986. In the following years, the first large orders from Airbus , Boeing and McDonnell Douglas followed .
In April 2000, US investment bank Morgan Stanley Dean Witter (MSDW) acquired Ansett Worldwide. The value of the fleet of 105 aircraft at that time was around three billion US dollars . In 2004 Ansett Worldwide officially changed its name to AWAS; the value of the fleet, after an expansion of 60 aircraft by MSDW, was approximately five billion US dollars.
In March 2006 AWAS was bought by Terra Firma Capital Partners and the headquarters moved to Dublin , Ireland . In June 2007, AWAS and Pegasus Aviation Finance Company of San Francisco merged ; so the third largest aircraft dealer in the world was born.
In 2008 AWAS ordered 100 new Airbuses with a list value of 6.9 billion US dollars. In 2010 the company celebrated its 25th birthday; that year Ray Sisson became President and CEO .
