Terra Firma Capital Partners is a London- based company active in the private equity space.
Once a Eurobond trader from Goldman Sachs, Guy Hands founded this in 1994 as an offshoot of the Japanese Nomura Principal Finance Group . The first investments were in the area of waste management . For the British Annington Homes founded by Nomura in 1996 , the holding company managed the residential building stock that had been privatized by the British Ministry of Defense. By 2006 the company had also invested over £ 4.7 billion in the hospitality , hotel , cinema and rail sectors .
Terra Firma Capital Partners I started in Cologne in 2002 to take over the municipal housing associations GAG and Grubo for a total of € 420 million, which despite several attempts ultimately failed due to resistance from three CDU councilors in 2003 who voted with the opposition. In 2004, Terra Firma Capital Partners took over the former state-owned motorway service station operator Tank & Rast for € 1.035 billion from the three previous shareholders, Allianz Capital Partners , Lufthansa and Private Equity Apax Partners . In January 2006 the press reported that the company was preparing to take over the RWE subsidiary Thames Water for £ 8 billion (€ 11.7 billion), which ultimately went to the Australian consortium Kemble Water .
In September 2007, TFCP II / III took over the music group EMI for four billion pounds (at that time the equivalent of around € 5.6 billion) until 2011 (including Robbie Williams , Coldplay , Herbert Grönemeyer ).
In July 2016, AMC Entertainment Holdings announced that it would acquire Odeon & UCI . The transaction was completed in November 2016.
