Austrian Wine Challenge Vienna

The Austrian Wine Challenge Vienna ( AWC Vienna for short ) is one of the largest officially recognized wine competitions in the world.

In 2019, the international wine competition was held for the 16th time in an uninterrupted sequence under the patronage of the Federal Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism and Michael Ludwig (Mayor of the Federal Capital Vienna) and in cooperation with the Federal Viticulture Association of Austria , the City of Vienna and the Oenological Association. In 2019, around 13,000 wines from 42 countries were submitted for evaluation. The presentation of the results, the awc Gala Night of Wine, takes place in the Vienna City Hall.

All wines are blind tasted at the higher federal educational institute and federal office for viticulture in Klosterneuburg in neutral individual cabins and rated according to the international 100-point scheme .

The best of the wines evaluated in this way receive the international wine trophies of the evaluation year in four classes:

The medals of the competition are recognized by the European Union as official wine awards and are officially approved for affixing to the wine bottles.
