A New Trick ( German : A new trick ) is an American comedy thriller of director David Wark Griffith from the year 1909 . The screenplay was also written by Griffith, the silent film is an American Mutoscope and Biograph Company production .

action

A young woman is walking in the park and loses her wallet. A subsequent young man picks up the find, but denies to the owner that he has the wallet. Two young men come by, find out about the process and promise the woman that they will help her.

You buy red paint and a knife from a house painter. With the help of a shortcut they get in front of the thief and one of the boys lies down on the floor with the paint-smeared knife. The other calls for help and hides. When the thief comes running and reaches the scene of the alleged murder, the second boy jumps out of his hiding place and accuses him of being the murderer. So the thief is forced to empty his pockets, the stolen wallet comes to light and can be returned to its owner.

A New Trick is 223 feet long and was released on a roll of 35mm film with The Lonely Villa . The film was registered with the United States Copyright Office on June 10, 1909 , and released in theaters the same day. Copies are preserved in the Library of Congress and the Museum of Modern Art Department of Film .

criticism

The Moving Picture World published a brief synopsis and review in its June 5, 1909 issue. A New Trick is one of the cleverest little comedies the Biograph Company has published so far, short and precise.
