A Star-Crossed Wasteland ( English for "Under a star-standing wasteland") is the third studio album by American metal band In This Moment . This album is the first that isn't bassist Jesse Landry, and is the last to feature new bassist Kyle Konkiel, as well as founding members guitarist Blake Bunzel and drummer Jeff Fabb. It was published by the Alternative Pressnamed as one of the most anticipated releases of 2010. Singer Maria Brink announced that the band had started writing songs for their next album and would later headline a tour in late 2009. Describing what their album would sound like on MySpace, the band said it would be heavier and darker and still have melodic moments. Ivan L. Moody was originally supposed to be a guest vocalist on "The Promise" but couldn't do so due to label problems. Instead, the band chose Adrian Patrick from Otherwise .
About the album
Brink revealed two working titles, "The Gun Show" and "The World is on Fire", which she posted on her website. Most of the album's lyrical content revolves around her personal life, including her breakup with former Devildriver bassist Jon Miller . Maria spoke more about the meaning of the album, saying, "I wrote about my experiences and kind of this metaphorical story type. There is definitely an underlying theme for the entire album of this post-apocalyptic wasteland world and" crossed lovers ". It's obvious that these two people are supposed to fail on principle, and it's not going to work, so it's this star-crossed wasteland world. "
A Star-Crossed Wasteland contains elements from Beautiful Tragedy and The Dream , mixes the abrasive Metalcore with the melodic alternative metal, but also makes it heavier.
