DevilDriver is an American metal - band from Santa Barbara . Her debut album of the same name was released in 2003 on Roadrunner Records . The band was founded by Dez Fafara , who was previously known from the nu-metal band Coal Chamber .

Career

DevilDriver at the Reload Festival 2018

By the age of 15, bassist Jon Miller , along with guitarist Jeff Kendrick and drummer John Boecklin , had already formed a high school band called Area-51 . They mainly played cover versions of Metallica , Slayer , and Pantera songs. In 2002 the three then met coal chamber singer Dez Fafara , who was in the middle of recording the album Dark Days , but wanted to leave the band. The band then formed under the original name Deathride, but Fafara bothered from the start that there were already bands with this name. In addition, the label of the band Roadrunner Records failed to secure the copyright for this name. In their search for a new name, the band members collected almost 200 names. Fafara then discovered the name DevilDriver in a book by his wife about Stregheria . On October 21, 2003, the debut album called DevilDriver was released on Roadrunner Records and immediately rose to number 17 on the US Top Heatseeker Charts . Founding member and main songwriter Evan Pitts, who according to his successor Mike Spreitzer wrote a good 90% of the music on the debut album, left DevilDriver after the album was released due to the extremely dense tour program.

In 2005 the band returned to the Sonic Ranch Studio near El Paso, Texas to produce the follow-up album. The Fury of Our Maker's Hand was released on June 28, 2005 and sold 10,402 copies in its first week.

On October 31, 2006, the album produced by Colin Richardson was re- released with bonus tracks and an additional DVD. This was followed by concerts in the USA, Europe and Australia as support act for In Flames , Fear Factory and Machine Head, among others . In 2007, The Last Kind Words, the band's third full album followed, which made it into the top 100 of the German charts. The band played among other things at the Download Festival in Donington Park , in November 2007 DevilDriver was also part of the Australian “gigantour” with Lacuna Coil , Static-X and Megadeth . In April 2008, just in time for the start of an upcoming tour there, an EP entitled Head On to Heartache was released in Great Britain .

In episode 6.10 of Scrubs , the band can be heard in two scenes with the following songs:

  1. Devil's Son (Album: DevilDriver) and
  2. Driving Down the Darkness (Album: The Fury of Our Makers Hand).

In episode 6.15 they could be heard again with the song Driving Down the Darkness . In July 2009 the album Pray for Villains was released. On February 22, 2011, the meanwhile fifth studio album Beast followed . Winter Kills was released on August 27, 2013 on Napalm Records.

In 2014, Dez Fafara announced that the band would be on hiatus until 2016 as Fafara wants to focus on reuniting with Coal Chamber. In addition, the founding members Jeff Kendrick and John Boecklin would have left the band, making Fafara the only remaining member of the original line-up. A new album will be released in 2016, which was made official in the spring of the year. The new album is called Trust No One and is due to be released worldwide on May 13, 2016.
