Aarhus Festuge
Aarhus Festuge ( German Festwoche Aarhus ) is a ten-day art and culture festival that takes place annually in the Danish city of Aarhus at the end of August / beginning of September . According to the organizer, it is one of the largest cultural events in Northern Europe, with public spaces, clubs, stages, galleries and museums serving as venues. Rikke Øxner, previously artistic director of the Roskilde Festival , has been the director since 2015 . She replaced Folmer Jepsen. The patronage was the Danish Queen Margrethe II.
The festival week goes back to the initiative of city councilor Inge Ehlers ( conservative ) on March 5, 1964, which Mayor Bernhardt Jensen ( S ) joined. The first edition of the festival followed in September 1965 and has since developed into the city's most important cultural event with international participation. A new event motto is issued every year. So far, the festival has focused on the following:
