Aarhus Sejlklub (ASK) (German: Aarhuser Segelclub ) is one of the oldest yacht clubs in Denmark.
history
The club was founded under the name Aarhusbugtens Sejlklub (German: Aarhus Bay Sailing Club) on July 27, 1879. A series of regattas that had taken place in the Aarhus Bugt (German: Aarhus Bay) and on the Kattegat since 1866 demonstrated the necessity of founding the club. But the regatta on February 27, 1878 was the decisive event to work towards a founding meeting. This was held on July 27, 1880 in Aarhus and the elections resulted in the first board: factory owner Alexius Leth, as chairman of the club, master painter Carstensen, restaurateur A. Bass, manufacturer Caroe and businessman Ludvig Houmann.
- In 1902 the club name was changed to Aarhus Sejlklub .
- In 1909 the club took part in the founding of the Jutland Sailing Union (Danish: Jydsk Sejl-Union ) as an organization between the sailing clubs Aarhus Sejlklub, Horsens Sejlklub , Sejlklubben Neptun from Vejle , Fredericia Sejlklub and Kolding Sejlklub . Later came to Sejlklubben Bugten from Aarhus and Horsens Amatørsejlklub .
- From 1911 onwards, regattas for smaller and larger sailing yachts were increasingly held in Aarhus Bay, practice boats, primarily for club members, were purchased in order to improve sports training in the club, and a club yacht was also purchased.
- In 1930 the Aarhus Yacht Club was formed as a result of disagreements within the Aarhus Sejl Club .
- In 1934 Aarhus Sejlkluk moved to the marina and in 1950 a hall for winter storage was built.
- On January 1, 1957, the Sejlklubben Varna, founded in 1948, merged with the Aarhus Sejlklub .
- In 1967 a new clubhouse is inaugurated in the sports boat harbor.
- In May 1979 the club celebrated its 100th anniversary. At this point there are 320 members and 71 pleasure craft.
- In 1998 the Aarhus Sejlklub and the Aarhus Yachtklub are merged.
