The 5th ISAF World Sailing Championships took place from July 30th to August 12th 2018 in Aarhus , Denmark .

A total of twelve competitions were held in different boat classes, four for men and five for women as well as three open competitions. For the first time, competitions in kitesurfing were also part of the program. The world championships were also the main qualification competitions for the sailing competitions at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo . 75% of all quota places were allocated here.

From a German-speaking perspective, the two Austrian regatta sailors Tanja Frank and Lorena Abicht managed to win the silver medal in the 49er FX boat class . In the Medal Race they were narrowly defeated by the Dutch boat, which still overtook them in the overall standings. German participants won two bronze medals: Philipp Buhl took third place in the laser , as did Tim Fischer and Fabian Graf in the 49er dinghy .

Results

The placements in the individual regattas of a competition are converted into points. The result of the worst placement is not taken into account as a deletion result. The addition of the points determines the final placement, with the boat with the lowest number of points winning.
