A total of eleven competitions were held in different boat classes, four for men and women and three open competitions. Ten to twelve regattas including a final medal regatta were held for each competition. All competitions were held as a fleet race . More than 900 boats and 1,350 sailors from 76 nations took part in the competitions.
The World Championships were also the main qualifying competitions for the sailing competitions at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing . 75% of all quota places were allocated here.
Results
The placements in the individual regattas of a competition are converted into points. The result of the worst placement is not taken into account as a deletion result. The addition of the points determines the final placement, with the boat with the lowest number of points winning.
