Sarah Lianne Ayton , OBE (born April 9, 1980 in Ashford ) is a former British sailor .

successes

Sarah Ayton took part in the Yngling boat class twice in Olympic Games . At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , she immediately became Olympic Champion when she and Sarah Webb took first place as a crew member of helmsman Shirley Robertson . After ten out of eleven races, they were already determined ahead of time as the winners and finished the regatta with 39 total points ahead of the Ukrainian and Danish boats. Also in 2008 in Beijing to Ayton secured the gold medal. This time she acted as helmsman, while Pippa Wilson completed the crew around Ayton and Webb. Thanks to 24 points, they came first ahead of the Dutch and Greek women. In 2007 in Cascais and 2008 in Miami , Webb, Ayton and Wilson won the title at the World Championships , and in 2008 they also became European champions together.

After Ayton had already been made a member of the Order of the British Empire for her Olympic success in 2004 , she received the Officer's Cross at the end of 2008 . In 2015 the World Sailing Association named Ayton World Sailor of the Year . She was married to windsurfer Nick Dempsey . The two have two sons.
