Nicholas Charles "Nick" Dempsey (born August 13, 1980 in Norwich ) is a former British windsurfer .

successes

Nick Dempsey took part in the Olympic Games five times . In 2000 he only finished 16th in the Mistral boat class in Sydney , before finishing third in Athens four years later . With his victory in the last race, he improved from fourth to third, winning the bronze medal behind Gal Fridman and Nikolaos Kaklamanakis . In 2008 he just missed another medal win in Beijing as fourth in the RS: X boat class . After ten races he was tied with Tom Ashley one point behind Julien Bontemps , but fell back on the podium after finishing seventh. At the Olympic Games in London in 2012 and in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 , he won the silver medal behind Dorian van Rijsselberghe . Both times he had a bigger lead over third place as well as a deficit to van Rijsselberghe. He ended his career after the 2016 Games.

At World Championships Dempsey won the title in Weymouth in 2009 and in Armação dos Búzios in 2013 . He also won the silver medal in Cádiz in 2012 and the bronze medal in Cascais in 2007 .

Dempsey was married to the sailor Sarah Ayton from 2008 to 2012 .
