The German documentary REISS AUS - Zwei Menschen. Two years. A dream from 2019 is a cinematic travel report by Lena Wendt and Ulrich Stirnat, who traveled to Morocco and 13 other West African countries with their Land Rover Defender from 2014 to 2016 . The film celebrated on March 11, 2019 in the zeise kinos in Hamburgits premiere and has already been seen in over 230 cinemas in Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. In the 40th week of the game, the film had 43,000 viewers in Germany. "REISS AUS" has already been shown at 11 international film festivals and received an award in the "Travel Documentation" category of the International Nature Film Festival Gödöllö (Hungary) and the " ZONTA Audience Award" from the VISUELLE Oberhausen Women's Film Festival.

During the film tour in 2019, during which the filmmakers were present in various cinemas for a film talk with the audience on site, they raised over € 44,000 in support for projects in West Africa as part of their film project. Among other things, the sustainable training of several young people in Mauritania through the project "La Porte de l'Espoir" as well as a reconnaissance vehicle for the project against female genital mutilation from TARGET eV ( Rüdiger Nehberg ) could be acquired.

content

In October 2014, the two protagonists of the film set off from their home town of Hamburg in the direction of South Africa in a Land Rover Defender they had built themselves . Originally, a period of six months was planned for the tour along the west coast of the African continent. However, the trip quickly develops differently than planned. The two have already spent more than two months in Morocco , another month in Mauritania and two months in Senegal . The original six months of travel will become almost two years. The two never arrive at their destination South Africa.

On the one hand, the film tells of the encounters with the locals of the 14 countries that the two Hamburgers cross along their travel route: In Morocco they meet the Berber Jamal, who lives with his dromedaries in the Sahara . Get to know Ziza in Mauritania , a musician who fights against government repression in his country with his music. Meeting in the Sahara Mame Sy, who founded a tutoring school for the poorest children. On the other hand, the film also focuses on the experiences and feelings of the filmmakers themselves: their joy and amazement, but also their discontent and impatience. Because two very different characters go on a journey together, but for different reasons, in which they have to get along with each other on almost 2 square meters 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

production

According to their own statements, Stirnat and Wendt did not plan to produce a (cinema) film from the recordings during the trip. The material was created for personal videos in a travel blog as well as for image and information videos for various local projects that the two got to know during their trip. The recordings were therefore only made with a reflex camera and GoPro . The idea for a movie only came about a year after the travelers had returned through a chance encounter with the director Hans-Günther Bücking . The post-production of the film was financed by Ulrich Stirnat and Lena Wendt via crowdfunding in order to remain independent of the influence of film production companies in the development of the script , editing and marketing . For this purpose, they founded the company Abgefahren GbR, which acts as a producer and distributor.
