Andrew Simpson (sailor)
Andrew James Simpson , OBE (born December 17, 1976 in Chertsey , † May 9, 2013 in the Bay of San Francisco , United States ) was a British sailor . As an Olympic and world champion, he was one of the most successful British sailors.
Career
At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Simpson won a gold medal with his partner Iain Percy in the Star Boot . At the 2012 Summer Olympics in Great Britain , both won a silver medal in the same boat class . Between them they won the Star boat in Rio de Janeiro , the World Cup of 2010.
During the training of an international team for the 34th America's Cup on May 9, 2013, to which he has been a member since February 2013, the Swedish catamaran Artemis broke at the front cross member in the Bay of San Francisco and capsized. Simpson was pushed underwater and drowned.
