Marcelo Bastos Ferreira (born September 26, 1965 in Niterói ) is a former Brazilian sailor .

successes

Marcelo Ferreira took part in four Olympic Games with Torben Grael in the Star boat class . The two first occupied in 1992 in Barcelona , first to eleventh place before four years on the regatta in Atlanta finished in first place. With 25 points, they became Olympic champions ahead of the Swedish and Australian boats . At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , they managed to jump into the medal ranks again with third place. Also in 2004 in Athens were successful Ferreira and Grael: before the final eleventh race they stood as Olympic champion firm and won the regatta with 42 total points.

At world championships Ferreira won a total of ten medals between 1990 and 2010, nine of them with Torben Grael. In 1990 they became world champions together in Cleveland , and they also secured five silver and three bronze medals. In 1997 he competed with Alexander Hagen and became world champion in Marblehead with him . In 1989, 1991 and 2003 he won the title at the open European championships with Torben Grael.

In the Volvo Ocean Race 2005-2006 he was a crew member of the Brasil 1 team , which finished third.
