David John Oliver Forbes (born January 26, 1934 ) is a retired Australian regatta sailor .

biography

David Forbes attended Newington College from 1943 to 1949 . In 1968 he competed at the Olympic Games in Mexico City together with Richard Williamson in the boat class Star and finished sixth. Two years later he became world champion in the boat class 5.5m IC in Sydney . At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , he and John Anderson won the gold medal in Star. Four years later at the Montreal Games , Forbes and his Soling crew, who had become North American champions the year before, only finished eleventh.
