Harold H. "Hal" Haenel (born October 18, 1958 in St. Louis ) is a former American sailor and current manager in the film industry.

Hal Haenel took part in three Olympic Games with Mark Reynolds in the Star boat class . His Olympic debut in 1988 in Seoul , they finished with 48 points with second place, bringing them behind the British Michael McIntyre and Bryn Vaile and before Nelson Falcão and Torben Grael received from Brazil the silver medal. Four years later , Haenel and Reynolds became Olympic champions together in Barcelona . With two wins in seven races, among other things, they closed the regatta with 31.4 points overallDonald Cowie and Rod Davis from New Zealand and Canadians Eric Jespersen and Ross MacDonald took first place. At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , they finished eighth. Haenel and Reynolds won a total of five medals at world championships : after silver in 1988 in Buenos Aires and bronze in Cannes in 1991 , they won the title in 1995 in Laredo, Spain . In 1996 he won another silver medal in Rio de Janeiro . It wasn't until 17 years later, in 2013, that they won their fifth World Cup medal in San Diego with bronze.

Haenel graduated from Columbia College in Chicago with a degree in film studies . He then moved to Hollywood , where, after a stopover, he began to work at the Hollywood Center Studios . There he was promoted to Vice President and Managing Director and held this position for 18 years before moving to 20th Century Fox , where he was President and Managing Director of the studio operations division.
