ISAF World Sailing Championships

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ISAF Sailing World Championships (Engl. ISAF Sailing World Championships, also briefly ISAF Worlds called) are those of the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) since 2015 World Sailing , discharged international championships all Olympic boat classes in sailing . They usually take place every four years, currently two years before the next Summer Olympics . The first ISAF World Championships were held in 2003 in the Spanish city of Cádiz .

The world championships are also the main qualification competition for the Olympic sailing competitions in the following year. 75% of all quota places are awarded at the regattas . In addition, the ISAF wanted to achieve better marketing opportunities and greater media interest through the introduction of joint world championships for the Olympic boat classes.

Independently of these joint world championships, the ISAF also organizes separate sailing world championships at different intervals for all boat classes ( dinghies , keelboats , multihulls and surfboards in the categories Olympic, international, recognized and classic) .
