The Nacra 17 is a catamaran designed for performance sailing in 2011. He was selected by ISAF for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro . The competition in this class will be held mixed for the first time, with one male and one female crew member each.

A characteristic innovation is the introduction of curved plug-in swords which, in addition to lateral guidance, also generate buoyancy and lift the boat hull out of the water. This reduces the resistance, which leads to higher speeds. Mainsail , jib and gennaker are available as sails .
