ISAF World Sailing Championships 2011
The 3rd ISAF World Sailing Championships took place from December 3rd to 18th, 2011 off Perth on the west coast of Australia . They were organized by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) and the Australian Sailing Federation. The sailing area included the waters off Bathers Bay and the port of Fremantle . With its application, Perth prevailed against Kiel's application, among other things .
Competitions were held in the ten Olympic boat classes, six for men and four for women. For the first time, a match race competition was also held at world championships . 789 sailors from 76 nations took part.
The World Championships were also the main qualification competition for the sailing competitions at the 2012 Olympic Games in London .
Results
The placements in the individual regattas of a competition were converted into points. The result of the worst placement was not taken into account as a deletion result. The last regatta, the so-called medal race, counted twice. The addition of the points determined the final placement, with the boat with the lowest number of points winning. In the match race competition, two round-robin tournaments were initially held. The eight best boats after these tournaments then determined the final placement in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals.
