Joanna Qesem Ayela "Jo" Aleh , MNZM (born May 15, 1986 in Auckland ) is a former New Zealand sailor .
successes
Jo Aleh, who sailed for the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron , competed in three Olympic Games . In 2008 , she took seventh place in the Laser boat class in Beijing . Four years later in London , she and Olivia Powrie became Olympic champion in the 470 dinghy with a total of 35 points ahead of the British and Dutch boats . At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , she won another medal with Powrie. With 54 points they were beaten this time by the Britons Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark , but they kept all other competitors at a distance and thus won the silver medal. At world championships she won five medals with Olivia Powrie with the 470 dinghy. In addition to a bronze medal and three silver medals, they became world champions in La Rochelle in 2013 .
At the end of 2012, like Powrie, she was named a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her Olympic success . In 2015 the World Sailing Association named Aleh and Powrie as World Sailors of the Year .
