The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron (RNZYS) ( German Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron ) is a New Zealand yacht club , one of the oldest yacht clubs in the world, founded in 1871 and based in Auckland .
The RNZYS became internationally known for its success at the America's Cup with Team New Zealand or, after the current main sponsor since 2006, Emirates Team New Zealand . In 1987 the club took part in the Cup race in Fremantle , Australia with the first 12-meter fiberglass yacht (KZ7, New Zealand under Chris Dickson ). He won the Admiral's Cup with propaganda that year under Billy Butterworth. In 1995 the team brought the Kanne ohne Boden (AC) to their home island and in 2000 was the first non-American team to defend it. Participation in the AC: 1987, 1988, 1992, 1995, 2000, 2003, 2007 (second place). After a sporty and technical breakup of the boat in the 2002/2003 campaign, the team was rebuilt. In the multi-year elimination races of the Louis Vuitton Cup , the club's team qualified as a challenger for 2007.
A small sailing boat, the P-class dinghy , which only exists in this country, is of great importance for sport and thus for many club members today . It was first built in Whangarei by Harry Highet in 1920 for children to practice safely. It is claimed that there are no more boats per capita in any country. Incidentally, four New Zealanders also fought in the Swiss winning boat Alinghi 2007.

history
The Auckland Yacht Club was founded in 1871 . In 1887 he merged with the Hauraki Club. In 1901 he changed the name to the current name. In 1902 the British monarch gave him the right to call himself the “Royal Club”. Its royal patron is Philip Mountbatten, Duke of Edinburgh . The offshore racing team has existed since 1987 (almost as an entrepreneurial department), which organizes participation in the America's Cup and ocean regattas .
