Robert Stanjek (born May 7, 1981 in Rüdersdorf ) is a German sailor in the Star class .

Life

Robert Stanjek started sailing as a child. He studied sports science with a focus on competitive sports and management at the Humboldt University in Berlin and starts for the North German Regatta Club . He started sailing as a schoolboy, in the laser class since 1996 . At the European Championships in the 2002 class in Vallensbaek he was 62nd, at the 2003 World Championships in Cádiz 68th. The last international championship was the 2004 World Championships in Warnemünde , where he was 40th. Stanjek was four times German champion in the class.

In 2005 Stanjek switched to the star boat. First he sailed as a helmsman with Markus Koy . The duo won their first title at the spring European championships and 13th at the regular European championships in Västervik . The 2006 European championships in Hamburg achieved their first top ten placement with sixth place. As in 2005, the doubles again led the German rankings in 2006. At the 2007 World Championships in Cascais Stanjek / Koy came in 19th place, at the European Championships in Malcesine they achieved another top ten placement in ninth place. In 2011 Stanjek formed a new / old sailing duo with Frithjof Kleen . Success came quickly. They won silver at the World Cup in Palma de Mallorca and finished fourth on the entire World Cup Tour. They achieved their greatest success at the World Championships in Perth , where they achieved the runner-up title behind Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada . Thus Stanjek / Kleen qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games of London . In the competitions before Weymouth they were sixth. A better placement prevented a disqualification in the seventh race.
