Ingo Borkowski

Ingo Borkowski (born October 10, 1971 in Potsdam ) is a German sailor .

Ingo Borkowski starts for the yacht club Berlin-Grünau . Since the early 1990s he has been part of the German and international sailing elite in changing boat classes. The first major event was the Soling European Championship in 1992, where he finished sixth. The following year he won the German Soling Championship. The first major success for Borkowski was winning the world championship in the H-boat in 1995 . He won silver in the ILC 40 class and third in the Admiral's Cup . The Potsdam substitute was for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta . In 1997 Borkowski finished second at the Admiral's Cup and won gold in both the Match Race and the Fleet Race at the Soling European Championship. A year later he repeated his success in the Match Race, in the Fleet Race he came third. He also won the match race title at the world championship of the year.

Borkowski celebrated his greatest international success at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney , where he won the silver medal with Gunnar Bahr and Jochen Schümann behind the Danish boat around Jesper Bank in Soling . There is also fourth place in the match race and fifth place in the fleet race at the world championships and silver in the match race at the European Championship. Borkowski then switched from Soling to the Starboot . In 2006 he was tenth in class at the World Cup. A year later he achieved the same placement at the European Championships and seventh at the World Cup. Both in 2006 and 2007, Borkowski took fourth place at the Kiel Week . In 2008 he managed to improve to fifth place at the World Cup. With Marc Pickel , Borkowski took part in the Starboot at the 2008 Olympic Summer Games in Beijing and came in seventh.
