Gunnar Bahr

Gunnar Bahr (born October 21, 1974 in Berlin ) is a former German regatta sailor who won an Olympic silver medal in 2000.

Gunnar Bahr, who competed for the Berlin-Grünau Yacht Club , and Ingo Borkowski formed Jochen Schümann's crew in the Soling boat class from 1997 onwards . Schümann and his new crew immediately won the title at the 1997 European Championships in both the Soling and the Soling Match Race . In 1998 Schümann, Bahr and Borkowski won the World Championship and the European Championship in Match Race, at the 1998 European Championship in Soling the three Berliners took third place behind the boats from Ukraine and Russia. In 1999, as in the previous year, they won the bronze medal at the European Championship regatta, this time behind the boats from the Netherlands and the Ukraine. At the regatta world championship, the Berliners received the silver medal behind the Danish boat with Sig Westergaard , Jens Bojsen-Möller and Bjørn Westergaard .

In the 2000 Olympic season, Schümann, Bahr and Borkowski finished fifth in both the World Regatta Championship and the European Regatta Championship. At the Olympic Regatta , the Berliners qualified for the match race phase in the Ragatten and won in the semifinals against the Dutch team. In the final, they were defeated by the Danish crew with Jesper Bank , Henrik Blakskjær and Thomas Jacobsen and won the silver medal. For this, he and his crew were awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by Federal President Johannes Rau on February 2, 2001 .

Gunnar Bahr is still internationally active in regattas, so he won the 2014 Gold Cup off Miami in the boat class Melges 32 with the yacht of the Monegasque Pierre Casiraghi .
