Pierre Rainier Stefano Casiraghi (born September 5, 1987 ) is the younger son and the youngest of three children of Caroline von Hannover and her second husband, Stefano Casiraghi . His maternal grandparents were Rainier III. from Monaco and the American actress Grace Kelly . Casiraghi is the eighth successor to the Monegasque throne and follows his cousin Hereditary Prince Jacques, his twin sister Princess Gabriella, his mother, his brother Andrea , the nephews Alexandre and Maximillian Casiraghi and his niece India Casiraghi.

Early life and education

Casiraghi was born on September 5, 1987 at the Princess Grace Hospital Center, in La Colle, Monaco . He is named after his maternal great-grandfather, Prince Pierre, Duke of Valentinois, his maternal grandfather, Prince Rainier III. and named his father. His godparents are his uncle, Prince Albert II, and his legitimate aunt Laura Sabatini Casiraghi, the wife of his uncle Daniele. Casiraghi was three years old in his father's fatal boating accident on October 3, 1990. After the death of his father, Pierre Casiraghi spent his first years in his mother's farmhouse in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence .

However, after his mother's marriage to Ernst August, Prince of Hanover, the family moved to Fontainebleau to be closer to Paris and London , where his new stepbrothers lived with their mother. Casiraghi is believed to have passed the French Abitur in the summer of 2005 as he began studying shortly afterwards. A year later, he moved to Milan to begin a three-year bachelor's degree in International Economics and Management at Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi . In addition to French, he is fluent in Italian, English and German. He also plays the saxophone.

Humanitarian and business activities

From January 30th to February 13th 2007, Casiraghi accompanied his mother on a humanitarian trip through Africa. On this trip, which Caroline made in her role as president of the children's aid organization AMADE Mondiale, they visited Niger, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Africa.

In June 2009, Casiraghi became a majority shareholder in Monaco-based construction company Engeco, which his father founded in 1984. His uncle Marco remained in the position of president over Engeco. Casiraghi is also the majority shareholder in Monacair .

Casiraghi is a member of the Administrative Committee of the Yacht Club de Monaco. In this capacity, he sponsored the “Sail for a Cause” charity race, an event organized by his cousin Leticia de Massy through her social network LeSpot, to promote it. Sail for a Cause raises money for two charities: Monaco Collectif Humanitaire, which supports operations for children around the world, and the Maison Notre Dame de Paix in Chad, which helps migrants.

In 2011 Casiraghi was made an honorary member of the Jeune Chambre Economique de Monaco (JCEM).

Casiraghi also takes part in sailing regattas. In January 2014 he was part of the Maserati team at the Cape2Rio regatta. His team completed the trip from Cape Town to Rio in a record time of 10 days, 11 hours, 29 minutes and 57 seconds. Casiraghi was a crew member of the Monaco Racing Fleet, led by Tommaso Chieffi, who was the first to cross the finish line at the 2013 edition of the Palermo-Monte Carlo Regatta. Casiraghi and the Monaco Racing Fleet also won the 10th edition of the Palmero-Monte Carlo race in August 2014. Casiraghi was on board as a crew member when the Esimit Europa 2 won the Giraglia Rolex Cup in June 2014.

Casiraghi is the founder of Team Malizia, whose crew sails the yacht Malizia on the annual GC32 Racing Tour. The team derives its name from "Il Malizia" ( German  the cunning ), the nickname of Casiraghi's medieval ancestor Francesco Grimaldi di Monaco . In August 2017, Casiraghi teamed up with Boris Herrmann to take part in the Fastnet Race . From Cowes over Ireland down to Devonshire they finished third.

Together with Boris Herrmann Pierre Casiraghi accompanied in August 2019 the sailing of Greta Thunberg and Svante Thunberg on the Malizia II to the over the Atlantic Ocean, climate activist a climate-neutral crossing to attend the annual meetings of the Climate Change Convention of the United Nations to allow.

Casiraghi is an integral part of the Monte Carlo Rally , a classic car race that takes place every January. In May 2014 he took part in a professional car race for the first time at the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup in Hockenheim . He was a prominent guest starter in the race, drove car # 26 and finished 22nd in the first race and 20th in the second. He said he was encouraged to race by his family friend and racing legend Jacky Ickx .

Personal

Casiraghi has been in a relationship with journalist Beatrice Borromeo since May 2008, whom he married in a civil ceremony on July 25, 2015 in the gardens of the Prince's Palace of Monaco. The religious ceremony took place on August 1st, 2015 on Isola Bella . Among the wedding guests were John Elkann , Lapo Elkann and Diane von Fürstenberg . Pierre and Beatrice's first child, Stefano Ercole Carlo, was born on February 28, 2017. Their second child, Francesco Carlo Albert, was born on May 21, 2018.
