Lapo Elkann

Lapo Edvard Elkann (born October 7, 1977 in New York , USA ) is an Italian entrepreneur and designer .

He is the son of Margherita Agnelli and the French publicist Alain Elkann and grandson of the industrialist Gianni Agnelli . His brother John is the president of the Fiat Group and his sister Ginevra is a film director.

Life

Lapo Elkann grew up in France and was considered the favorite grandson of Fiat patriarch Gianni Agnelli. After graduating with a degree in international relations in London, he worked there as personal assistant to former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger .

In 2004 Elkann took over the marketing and brand management of the Fiat group, which at that time was plagued by major sales problems. In the following years he played a leading role in the rejuvenation of the brand image of the Fiat automotive brand , which he achieved through a Fiat clothing and accessories line, his own cafés in Madrid and Milan and many other activities.

After a public medical emergency under the influence of illegal drugs on an October night in Turin in 2005, Elkann retired from his functions in the Fiat group in 2006. He presented his own sunglasses collection with the name "Italia Independent", later he founded his own fashion label under the same name . In 2007 Elkann was involved in the Fiat 500 market launch .

From October 2007 to February 2008 Lapo Elkann was also president of the Milan volleyball club “Sparkling Milano”.

In November 2016, the New York City Police Department began an investigation into the alleged kidnapping of Lapo Elkann. A little later, however, Elkann was arrested on suspicion of having faked the kidnapping.

Vanity Fair magazine has named him the best-dressed man in the world four times.
