Robert Scheidt began sailing in the Optimist at the age of nine . As a teenager he switched to the Olympic one-hand laser class , in which he was eight times world champion and won two Olympic gold and one silver. In 2001 and 2004 he was voted "World Sailor of the Year". Scheidt has been sailing in the Olympic star boat class since 2006 and has also established himself among the world's best.
