successes

Tom Burton was unable to assert himself against Tom Slingsby in preparation for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and thus did not take part in his first Olympic participation until 2016 in Rio de Janeiro in the laser boat class . Before the final medal race , he was in second position behind Tonči Stipanović , who started the race ten points ahead of Burton. However, Stipanović only reached ninth place, while Burton was third. So he overtook Stipanović and became Olympic champion . At world championships in Santander in 2014 and in Split in 2017 , he won the silver medal in this boat class, and in 2015 he secured bronze in Kingston . In 2019 he finally won the title in Sakaiminato .

For his Olympic success, Burton received the Australia Order Medal in 2017 .
