Fernando Echávarri Erasum (born August 13, 1972 in Santander ) is a Spanish sailor .

successes

Fernando Echávarri took part in the Olympic Games in multihull boat classes three times . With Antón Paz , he finished first in 2004 in Athens in the Tornado class in eighth place, before it four years with Paz in Beijing before the Australian and Argentine boat Olympic champion was. With 44 points they asserted themselves in first place, after finishing first in four of the eleven races of the regatta. At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , he started with Tara Pacheco in the Nacra 17 and finished the regatta in eleventh place. At world championships Echávarri succeeded with Antón Paz 2005 in La Rochelle and 2007 in Cascais each the title win in the Tornado. In 2017 he won the silver medal in La Grande-Motte with Tara Pacheco in the Nacra 17.

In 2005 the World Sailing Association named Echávarri and Paz World Sailor of the Year . In the Volvo Ocean Race 2008-2009 he was the skipper of the yacht Telefonica Black , which won the tenth and final stage and took sixth place in the overall standings.
