John Osborn , MBE (born September 8, 1945 ) is a retired British sailor .
successes
John Osborn took part in the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal in the Tornado boat class . Together with his brother-in-law Reg White , he won four of the first six races and finished the other two in fourth and fifth, so that they were already established as Olympic champions before the seventh and final race and did not participate in it. They received the gold medal ahead of the Americans David McFaull and Michael Rothwell and the German duo Jörg Spengler and Jörg Schmall . At the World Championships , they first secured the silver medal together in Copenhagen in 1975 , before winning the title in Sydney the following year .
At the end of 1976 he was made a member of the Order of the British Empire for his Olympic victory .
