Jörg Schmall (born January 27, 1943 in Stuttgart ) is a German regatta sailor who competed for the Federal Republic of Germany.

successes

Jörg Schmall from the Constance Yacht Club won the German championship in the Tornado boat class in 1973 and 1976 together with his brother Steffen Schmall .

He started internationally in 1975 together with Jörg Spengler from the Noris Yacht Club . In 1975 the two won the world title in the tornado ahead of the British Reginald White and John Osborn .

At the 1976 Olympic Games, the two British won by a clear margin over the US sailors David McFaull and Michael Rothwell . After two second places in the first two races, Spengler and Schmall were able to secure the bronze medal just behind the Americans with a second place in the last race. For this he and his partner Jörg Spengler were awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by Federal President Walter Scheel together with the German Olympic team .

In 1979 Spengler and Schmall won the German championships together and the following year they won the bronze medal again at the world championships.

Jörg Schmall is a graduate physicist and lives in Nuremberg. He is a member of the Constance Yacht Club (KYC).
