At the end of 1976 he was made a member of the Order of the British Empire for his Olympic victory . His son Robert White also took part in two Olympic sailing regattas. White himself was also active as a boat builder and ran a company with Yves Loday , among others , that specialized in catamaran construction. He was married and had four children.
