reception
Jason Ankeny gave the album four stars in Allmusic and wrote: “This massive double album, recorded live at the [1973] newly opened Sydney Opera House, captures Don Burrows in transition - after the flutist had reduced his accompanying unit to a quartet, Having taken the piano out of his arsenal, he increasingly turned his music inward and explored the space and atmosphere with a new intensity. Burrows, who is accompanied by longtime sideman, guitarist George Golla, creates smooth, softly focused jazz that is influenced by both American soul and Latin pop. Many songs feature long, nuanced solos by bassist Ed Gaston and / or drummer Alan Turnbull, culminating in a searing soul-jazz cover of Nat Adderley's 'Sweet Emma'. "
