Philipp Buhl (born December 19, 1989 in Immenstadt ) is a German laser sailor . He is a member of the Alpsee-Immenstadt sailing club and has been sailing in the Laser Radial boat class since 2001 , Laser Standard since 2006 , Moth and Flying Dutchman since 2017 .

His trainer is Alexander Schlonski from Rostock .

Athletic career

As a sports soldier in Kiel , he won the German laser championship in 2007, finished fourth in his class at the European championship in Tallinn and came third at the 2010 World Cup regatta in Kiel.

In 2010 he reached eighth place in the overall World Cup. and finished the season in twelfth place at the World Cup.

In 2010 he became the International German Champion on the Hamburg Outer Alster.

With the silver medal at the Kiel Week 2011, he sailed his best World Cup result to date and kept every chance of participating in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Only one German laser sailor was allowed to take part there and he was not nominated.

He achieved great sporting success in 2015 when he became vice world champion. Shortly thereafter, he won the silver medal at the European Championships.

At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, he finished 14th.

Buhl has been sailing in the International Moth Class since 2017 for personal compensation .

In February 2020 he became the first German world champion in lasers.
