Pavlos Kontides
Pavlos Kontides (born February 11, 1990 in Limassol ) is a Cypriot sailor.
Career
After graduating from high school, Kontides studied shipbuilding in Southampton.
He contested his first regatta in 1999 in an Optimist at the Cypriot Championships. In 2003 he won his first title at the national youth championship in laser . In 2007 and 2008 he was Junior World Champion twice in a row. In 2009 he won the bronze medal at the European Laser Championships.
In 2008 he first took part in the Summer Olympics in Beijing and was thirteenth in the laser . Four years later he won the silver medal in the same boat class in London , the first medal for a Cypriot athlete in Olympic history. At world championships he first secured the silver medal in the laser in 2013 before winning the title in 2017 and 2018 .
