Abu Temple (Ešnunna)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Abū Temple of Ešnunna is an early Bronze Age sanctuary that was excavated at the Tell Asmar site in what is now Iraq .

It existed up to the Akkad period , but structural conditions from early dynastic times have also been explored. Originally it was a hearth house , with a separation between the anteroom and the cult room. On the back wall of the cella there was a pedestal about one meter high, on which there was presumably a cult image . A low sacrificial altar was uncovered in front of this pedestal .
