Abbenfleth barrier

The Abbenfleth barrier near Bützfleth is located at the confluence of the Bützfleth Süderelbe into the Elbe . It is part of a flood protection concept to that of the tides influenced Unterelbe of the barrage Geesthacht to the mouth of the river into the North Sea, the result of the severe storm surge in February 1962 has been developed.

The barrage , which went into operation in 1971 after around three years of construction, protects the Bützflether Sand industrial area. The construction costs of the barrage amounted to the equivalent of around five million euros.

The structure is 32 meters wide and 29.50 meters deep. The shipping opening, which has a clear width of 13.5 meters, can be closed by two two-part mitred gates . The jamb depth is 2.50 meters below sea ​​level , the upper edge of the stem gates is 7.50 meters above sea level. There is a bascule bridge over the barrage .

The barrage is operated by the Stade site of the Lower Saxony State Agency for Water Management, Coastal Protection and Nature Conservation (NLWKN).
