Abbie Goldberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Abbie E. Goldberg is Professor of Gender and Psychology at Clark University in Worcester , Massachusetts ( USA ). Her main interests lie in researching gay and lesbian parents, starting families with adoption backgrounds and the development and change of parenthood in various social contexts.

Researches

Goldberg graduated from Wesleyan University and received her Ph.D. Awarded by the University of Massachusetts Amherst . She has been at Clark University since 2005, currently as an Associate Professor . Her research is financially supported by the American Psychological Association , the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation , the Williams Institute , the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association and the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues .

In her most recent research, she comes to the conclusion that homosexual parents are no worse for children than heterosexual parents, and in some cases same-sex couples can even be better. According to Goldberg, there are also no statistical indications that homosexual parents raise their children as "homosexual".

“All studies also show that the children can adapt very well. They are also more tolerant than children of heterosexual couples because their parents tend to impart positive values to them. ”This also leads to the children being more flexible, especially because they have internalized far fewer gender clichés. Sons of gay and lesbian couples would therefore find it much less of a blemish to work in a “women's profession”.

Awards

Goldberg has received several awards, the most recent in 2010 with the 2010 Distinguished Book Award from the American Psychological Association and in 2007 the Outstanding Research Paper from a Feminist Perspective Award from the National Council on Family Relations .
