Barrier

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The name Abbingwehr , in the oldest tradition Abbyngearwe , refers to a small terp settlement north of the village of Loppersum in the municipality of Hinte ( district of Aurich ) in East Friesland . Abbingwehr is about ten kilometers north of the city of Emden . The place is located on Abbingwehrer Tief, which flows west of the place into the Alte Greetsieler Sieltief .

History

The settlement is likely to have originated in the early Middle Ages . The swampy soil of the partially very low-lying district prevented the expansion of the small village during the Middle Ages, so that the Warf and the land of Abbingwehr probably came into the possession of the Order of St. John between 1285 and 1290 either cheaply or as a gift .

At the beginning of the 16th century, the Kommende Abbingwehr was the richest of the Order of St. John in East Friesland. In the course of the Reformation, the members of the order were forcibly displaced by the count's troops in 1528/29. In 1529 the monastery church was demolished by order of the count. The Count's Meier moved into the other buildings of the Coming House.

Thanks to the courtesy of the widowed Countess Anna , the Emden reformer and state superintendent of East Friesland, Johannes á Lasco, was able to acquire Abbingwehr temporarily in the autumn of 1546.

Abbingwehr today

The village of Abbingwehr is one of the smallest villages in the Hinte community. It is located near the B 210 between Emden and Aurich and is primarily agricultural.
